Our tours are for pilots with
an ability to thermal confidently and at least a little
cross country experience. A reasonable level of fitness is
required as there may be some walking to be done while
carrying kit (although you normally won't have to walk too
far uphill if you don't want to - you can usually hire a
porter).
All pilots need to bring their own flying kit, which should
include the usual safety equipment, i.e. a helmet and a
recently repacked reserve. For communications you'll need a
2-metre radio, preferably with a decent headset so you can
talk easily while flying, and a mobile phone. Make sure the
latter is unblocked so that we can sort you out with a
local simcard. A gps is useful but not essential. For peace
of mind, an epirb is a good idea. We may be able to rent
you one - let us know in advance if you're interested.
Similarly, you may want to bring a satphone. They too can
be rented.
All pilots must have comprehensive medical insurance.
It can get pretty cold while flying, especially if you get
high over the back, so bring plenty of warm clothes and a
pair of good gloves.
We recommend bringing lightweight gear. If you want advice
on kit we can help, and might be able to arrange good deals
with suppliers.
Above all, you need to have a sense of adventure and a
willingness to enjoy whatever India throws at you!
